Fortunate was I to accompany our madam
to this memorable function.
Galaxy of veterans from the Tamil tinsel world was present. A
sight to watch the yesteryear stars greeting one another and chatting.
Reminded me of our alumni association meets when we get to see
our buddies after a long time.
We were among the early birds to reach the venue. After the security
frisks, madam was requested to share her feelings for Jaya TV.
Madam occupied the designated chair. VS Raghavan and Kanchana
were by her side.
Padmini, KR Vijaya, Anjalidevi, Sarada, Sachu, Rajasri, Kusalakumari,
Rajasulochana, Lakshmi, Sheela, were the old timers present. VJ
was spotted moving around. MS Rajeswari, SJ, TMS, SPB, PBS, Hariharan
arrived later and took their respective seats. Chitra came and
paid her resepcts to madam PS by touching her feet and exchanged
pleasantries, before she took her seat. Other leading personalities
like AVM Saravanan, Nagesh, K Balachander, Bharatiraja, Shankar
were in the front row. Todays generation was represented by Vikram,
Vijay, Surya, Srikanth, Jeyam Ravi, Vivek, Jyothika, Laila, Meera
Vasudevan, Devadharshini and others. While one could see the old
timers meeting one another, the youngsters were aloof.
CM arrived a few minutes ahead of schedule and the function started.
Prior to the commencement of the function the air was filled with
the tamil film tunes of the golden era. They were only instrumental.
I felt let down that the original songs were not played with the
golden voices of the veterans PS, TMS etc. This feel was fulfilled
when the function started with the Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu.(sung
by PS and TMS).
The award presentation commenced with TMS receiving the first
award followed by madam PS. When PS name was announced and she
proceeded amidst applause, an
unexpected thing happened. Our CM embraced and hugged PS, affectionately
took her face with both hands and placed kisses on both her cheeks.
A few seconds the
hug lasted and PS was visibly moved. SOMEONE SPECIAL- Madam PS
was the only privileged awardee for this gesture. The newspapers
have flashed this photograph.
It is a great recognition to the unparalleled melody queen.
Two songs viz. Uyire Uyire from “Bombay” and Enna
thavam seithane from “Parthiban Kanavu” were rendered
by Hariharan+Chitra and Harini respectively.
Special thanks and appreciations to our CM, who has honoured
all the veterans and rightly she described them as living histories
in her speech. She deserves accolades for remembering and honoring
Smt.Balasaraswathi Devi from Hyderabad, the first
woman playback singer and Smt. MS Rajeswari as well. |
